Hiring-process patterns

Ghost job

What is a ghost job?

A ghost job is a role posted with no real intent to hire, or a requisition that was already filled. On Ghostedcheck it is one of six hiring-process patterns — not a legal finding, not a crime report, and not proof that a company never hires.

A ghost-job filing is stored, then held, until independent connections describe that same pattern at the same company enough times to meet the live recurrence bar. The bar starts at three and self-tunes. Recurrence is ranking, not verification. Ghostedcheck does not confirm that the job existed or that anyone applied.

How to spot it

  • The posting is weeks or months old, or keeps resetting to “posted 1 day ago.”
  • The same title is not on the company’s own careers page.
  • Applications vanish into Easy Apply with no recruiter name, no timeline, and no reply.
  • The role is described as “urgent” but the listing never moves.

These are things you can see. They are not a finding. Run a listing check.

On the public ledger

Companies below have public reports of this pattern that met the live recurrence bar. Unverified. Not a background check.

Nothing public yet

No company has met the live bar for ghost job reports. A filing stays held until independent first-hand accounts of this pattern at the same company recur.

Questions about this pattern

Short answers search and answer engines can quote. Recurrence is not proof. This is not a background check.

What is a ghost job?

A ghost job is a role posted with no real intent to hire, or a requisition that was already filled. Listings may stay up to collect resumes, look active, or satisfy an internal metric. Ghostedcheck records first-hand accounts of that posting behavior. It does not investigate the employer.

Does a public ghost-job report mean the company never hires?

No. A public listing means independent first-hand accounts of that pattern at that company met an automatic bar. It is not a finding that the company is a fraud, never hires, or broke a law. Recurrence is not proof.

How do I report a ghost job anonymously?

Open File a report, name the employer and role as they appeared on the posting, pick Ghost job, and describe the process — not people. No account is required. Names and contact details are rejected. The filing stays held until independent accounts of that pattern meet the live bar.
