How Ghostedcheck works
A ledger, not a rating site
Ghostedcheck is an anonymous public ledger of first-hand hiring-process reports — ghost jobs, unpaid take-homes, re-posted listings, interview ghosting, bait-and-switch, and endless loops. Filings stay held until independent accounts of the same pattern meet a self-tuning bar. It is not a background check.
Job seekers keep running the same maze: a posting that never closes, a take-home that looks like unpaid labor, a final round that ends in silence, the same listing back on the board two weeks later.
Ghostedcheck is a public record of those patterns. Anyone can file. A filing stays held until independent first-hand accounts of the same pattern at the same company meet a self-tuning bar. There are no accounts, so a report cannot be tied to a person by this site. That is the point — and the constraint. Do not put anything in a report that identifies you or anyone else.
What is Ghostedcheck not?
- Not a consumer reporting agency. The ledger is not a background check and must not be used to make employment, credit, insurance, or tenant decisions about a person.
- Not a newsroom. Reports are user-generated. Ghostedcheck does not investigate, fact-check, or endorse them.
- Not verified reviews. There is no identity check. Recurrence means independent accounts of a pattern met an automatic bar, not proof that anyone applied. See how the hold works.
- Not a company reply portal. There is no claimed-profile or verified-response channel.
- Not a lawsuit shield. Anyone can file a suit. Terms, screens, and the recurrence hold reduce risk. They do not make the operator or filers immune. See legal notices.
What belongs on a report
- The posting. Title, location as listed, whether it came back after you went through the process.
- The process. Screens, onsites, take-homes, case studies, unpaid projects.
- The close. Ghosted, rejected, withdrawn, or still waiting.
- Not people. No interviewer names, recruiter names, emails, or phone numbers. Those filings are rejected.
Glossary
- Ghost job
- A role posted with no real intent to hire, or a requisition that was already filled. On Ghostedcheck it is one of six hiring-process patterns, not a legal finding.
- Recurrence hold
- A stored filing stays off the public ledger until independent connections describe the same hiring pattern at the same company enough times to meet a live, self-tuning bar. Recurrence is ranking, not verification.
- Ghost index
- A 0–100 volume-weighted mix of public (not held, not hidden) pattern reports for a company. It is not a consumer report and must not be used to judge a named person.
- Held filing
- A first-hand report that passed automated name and contact screens but is not yet public because the pattern has not met the live recurrence bar.
The six patterns
- Ghost job
- The role was posted with no real intent to hire, or the requisition was already filled.
- Unpaid work
- A take-home, case study, or assignment that went well beyond a reasonable skills check.
- Re-posted listing
- The same or nearly identical job was re-posted after interviews or assignments.
- Ghosted
- The company stopped responding after interviews, a take-home, or a promised decision date.
- Bait and switch
- The posted title, pay, location, or seniority did not match what was actually on offer.
- Endless process
- Round after round with no decision — a process that keeps the requisition looking active.
How the ghost index is scored
Each pattern has a weight. Ghost jobs and unpaid work sit at the top; an endless process still counts, but less. The score is that average, then scaled by how many public reports a company has. Held filings do not count. Recurrence is not verification. A stack of the same public pattern is what pushes a company into “serial.”
Reports are not verified. They are a map of what applicants say happened. Read them that way.
How moderation works
Before a report is stored, automated screens reject contact details, named individuals, threats, slurs, confidential material, and obvious spam. A stored filing then stays held until independent first-hand accounts of the same pattern at the same company meet the live bar, counted from distinct connections. The number starts at three. It can rise if that cluster, that pattern, or the ledger is being flagged or hidden, and it can ease once the pattern is already public. After publication, anyone can flag a report. Repeat flags from the same connection are ignored. After several distinct flags, the report is taken off the public ledger, and the cluster may be held again. Holding or hiding a report is an integrity step, not an adoption of what remains as Ghostedcheck’s speech.
Rate limits cap how often one connection can file. Duplicate story text is rejected. There is no appeal form, because there is no account.
Read the method, community guidelines, terms, privacy policy, and legal notices. Court orders and copyright notices use the legal request package. You must be 18 to file.
